2 job boards you should be using that aren't LinkedIn, Glassdoor or Indeed

Updated: May 24, 2021

When it comes to applying for jobs, LinkedIn, Glassdoor and Indeed reign supreme. All of us, myself included, have probably used one of these three at some point to find and apply to different positions. However here are two additional job boards that you should definitely be using when looking for your next product manager role.

AngelList is a platform that is focused on the tech startup world. It is completely free to use and just requires setting up a profile and uploading your resume. There are open roles from small, mid and large size startups in addition to larger tech companies as well. From my experience, there are going to be open product manager jobs on AngelList that you won't be able to find anywhere else. If you are interested in getting into the startup world, then AngelList is a fantastic resource. Just keep in mind that responsibilities as a product manager at a 25 person startup are going to be drastically different than those at Facebook or JPMorgan.

BuiltIn is a tech community that offers news and information for various tech hubs across the country including NYC, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The link in the header points to BuiltInNYC but there is also a BuiltInLA, BuiltInSF and so on. Each city will have a job board where you can find a pretty sizable list of product manager jobs currently available. Most of the positions will be tech focused but I have occasionally seen finance, health care and other industry openings as well. You can start applying directly right away; no profile needed. In fact, I actually found my first product manager job on BuiltIn!

Another cool aspect of BuiltIn that is especially helpful for those without a product background is their company spotlights. Many of the larger companies that are on the platform will have a page that provides more details around the company, culture and perks. Here is an example for Vimeo: https://www.builtinnyc.com/company/vimeo. However, the section that is particularly valuable is the "Technology We Use" section. In this section, you can see the exact tools and software the product team at that company is using.

This can help guide you in terms of what things to do some research on. For example, if you see that a lot of PM teams are using InVision and you have no clue what that is, it might be worth your time to do some digging and get familiar with it.

So if you aren't already leveraging AngelList or BuiltIn, I would highly recommend doing so to help take your product job search to the next level. Both are fantastic resources that helped me get more PM interviews.
